Isn’t it so wonderful to wake up to naturally smooth, hydrated skin in the morning? Come wintertime, it seems that mornings like these are few and far between.

A few days ago, I woke up feeling in dire need of a hydrating face mask. So I whipped out a pen and paper and came up with my dream concoction.

I bring you: The Ultimate Hummusbird Hydrating Face Mask. (Hehe, that’s me.)

The base is made of plain organic yogurt, raw honey, sweet almond oil, aloe vera gel, and rose water; five ingredients that are known to hydrate, balance, and sooth the skin. But what’s a homemade beauty product without some essential oils to ignite the senses and make you feel like a total goddess? I added ylang ylang and clary sage to reduce inflammation, and rose to further balance the hormones. All three essential oils are also aphrodisiacs, in addition to a ton of other incredible benefits.

Ingredients:
½ cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon rose water (learn to make your own)
2-3 drops each of ylang ylang, rose, & clary sage essential oils

To make, simply mix up your base ingredients in a bowl, then add your essential oils and give another little stir. If your mixture is too thin for your liking, you can add some almond meal – this will also act as a gentle exfoliator as you rinse the mask off your skin.

Don’t worry if you don’t have or can’t get all of the ingredients – any mixture of the above will work wonderfully as long as you have a good base of either yogurt, almond oil, aloe vera gel, or honey. If you’re not using yogurt, just use more of the other base ingredients to balance out the essential oils.

To use, apply a generous layer to clean, dry skin. Let sit for about 15-20 minutes (or longer if you’d like). Then, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. I recommend following with a hydrating face serum (like this one) to keep the moisture locked in.

You’ll probably have some left over – you can pour the remainder into an air-tight container, and store in the refrigerator for about a week. This also makes a great homemade gift for the holidays!
