You know I preach to get dressed every day to look and feel your best. Too many moms roll out of bed and hit the ground running to get the kids off to school with no regard for themselves. The problem with not taking 15-20 minutes minimum to get yourself ready is that you are neglecting yourself. When something is neglected, it quite literally is disrespected.
Here is a rule of thumb to remember: do 1 of 3 things if you are extremely limited on time… do your hair, makeup or dress nice.
- If you are going to wear gym clothes, create a cute braided hairstyle or casual updo…something more than the messy bun or ponytail!
- If you are going to wear a hat to cover your hair, put on some concealer, gloss and mascara.
- If you are only going to wash your face and brush your teeth, put on a cute outfit. You should be creating a well-edited wardrobe with the tips from A Mom in Red High Heels so you can grab anything from your closet and it will look great on you (you have disposed of the ill-fitting clothes, right?)
The bottom line is that if you take the time to get ready in the morning, you are opening yourself up for opportunities. You won’t have to skip an impromptu coffee date or avoid people you know when you spot them at the grocery store! Instead you are putting out the energy that you are worth time and effort, plus you are ready for whatever is thrown your way!
The biggest style problem I hear from women is what to wear on those casual days that you want to be super comfy, yet look cute. You won’t be doing any business meetings or going to the gym so what type of outfit falls into the gap between professional and workout?
It’s an art to be casual chic! Here are a few ideas:
These looks are totally laid back but absolutely stylish!
Day of Errands:
Your style becomes chic when you consider the details of each piece you wear. Each of these pieces are basic but have great details. Colorblock jeans are so much more interesting than basic black; snakeskin print blouse is as comfy as a tee with far more style, accessories with color add interest to this neutral outfit; mascara makes the eyes pop…You are ready for a day of errands!
Movie Date with Kids:
Movie time is still public time and you shouldn’t leave the house in any old sweats and tee! Instead, upgrade your look to something just as comfy yet chic! Silk slouchy sweatpants-inspired pants, a tee with a fun saying, a bit of bling, a simple hair band and awesome shoes will give you a fun movie-time look!
School Field Trips (working in classroom or at PTA meetings):
You are traveling with a bunch of kids and enjoying new experiences with them so you don’t want your outfit to be a distraction to anyone. You want comfort and stylish modesty. Let your brightly colored pants take the stage and keep everything else neutral! You definitely want comfy flats and a pop of color on your lips to finish the look!
Market Style:
Walking around art festivals, craft fairs or framer’s markets means comfort is top priority! Having an armload of fresh flowers, crafts and browsing booths requires you to keep it simple! Try a t-shirt dress, supportive combat boots, arm candy and cute hair ties! Don’t forget the stylish sunglasses!
You can skip the heels, but don’t skip the style. Comfy chic is achievable! Which outfit inspires you to look great running everyday activities?
