 Spring 2015 Makeup Trends

It’s barely even fall but the runways are catapulting us into a spring state of mind. From New York to Paris, Spring / Summer 2015 promises to offer beautiful, healthy skin, glossy lids, and stained lips. Pick and choose aspects of these trends for early consumption (if you’re residing on the west coast where the temps are still at summer highs, right now is as good of time as any), or simply memorize the looks so that you are ahead of the trend.

Either way, as Nars Lead Makeup Stylist Jenny Smith explains, when it comes to spring beauty, it’s out with the outrageous and in with the pretty.

Here, the top 5 Spring 2015 makeup trends as described by Jenny:

1.Bold Brows – as seen at Thakoon (New York)
Thakoon was inspired by Paul Gauguin. As an artist, Gauguin styled himself and his work as “savage.” This look is truly raw, savage beauty showing off the dewiness and confidence of beautiful skin.

How To: Brush brows up (with a clear brow gel) for an eye opening effect that’s confident and cool.

Products Used: Skin was given a dewy effect with Orgasm Illuminator and brows were brushed up and placed with Oural Brow Gel.

Editor’s Pick To TRY: Anastasia Brow Gel in clear

2. Dewy Skin – as seen at Christopher Kane (London)
At Christopher Kane, it has always been about beautiful skin and at Nars, we think the same way (or we can say it has always been the DNA of the Nars brand). Complexion was brightened with skincare and perfected with minimal makeup. Christopher Kane’s work is always so detailed, thus creating a skin look never detracts from the detail of his clothing.

How To: Mix a pearlescent serum with tinted moisturizer for a radiant, perfected finish. Apply a silvery cream highlighter to higher points of the face above brows, bridge of the nose, bow of the lip and high points of cheekbones.

Products Used: Prep skin with Optimal Brightening Concentrate. Further enhance with Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and Copacabana Multiple.

Editor’s Pick To TRY: RMS Living Luminzer to highlight high points.

3. “No Makeup” Makeup – as seen at Marc Jacobs (New York)
Over the years, we’ve seen the bold looks that Francois Nars has created for Marc. This season was a return to the DNA of the brand with a skin look. Francois Nars loves to see natural beauty, so it has always been about skin at Nars and the radiance of healthy skin took the show.

How To: Massage a luminous cream into face to give a light reflecting effect. Use a matte concealer to hide any blemishes. Hydrate lips with a clear, semi-shine lip treatment and blot.

Products Used: Stick Concealer was used minimally to conceal any blemishes and Rosebud Salve lip treatment kept lips hydrated.

Editor’s Pick To TRY: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl for hydration and luminosity.

4. Glossy Eyelids – as seen at Naeem Khan (New York)
Naeem’s inspiration was Lauren Bacall, still glamorous, but a bit more undone. Old Hollywood glamour meets the modern girl. The collection was still as glamorous and sequined as always, but with sequined shorts and jeweled sweatshirts this season instead of just Naeem’s classic gowns. The girl is still glamorous and she’s ready to attend anything in a hybrid of casual glam!

How To: After applying eye makeup, use a concealer brush to glaze lip gloss over lids and blend out to edges.

Products Used: Cappadoce Matte Multiple [Editor's Note: This is my absolute favorite Multiple for sculpting and creating a matte golden hue] was blended over eyes and touched onto cheeks for subtle dimension, and Triple X Gloss glazed onto lids for a glossy eye effect.

5. “Bitten” Lips – as seen at Erdem (London)
Erdem’s inspiration for this collection was an obsessive botanist who spends most of her time in the conservatory where she goes mad. The entire runway was like a jungle that she had “wandered into.”

How-To:
We’ve seen bold lips season after season. The “bitten” lip is easily achieved by tapping a brighter color on the inner rim of your lip, and tapping over it lightly with your finger or a brush. Think of the inside of a flower petal where the brighter color blooms from.

Products Used: Copacabana Multiple created a moisturized, dewy glow on the skin, Rue Bonaparte Larger Than Life Eyeliner brightened the inner rim of eyes and Siam Matte Multiple “bit” the inside of lips and flushed the cheeks.

Editor’s Pick To TRY: Armani ‘Rouge d’Armani’ Lipstick in 410, a long-wearing, just-bitten fuchsia-red.
