I love making homemade gifts. The love that goes into creating a gift with your own hands makes it so special and personal. This time of year, lip balm is a gift you can’t go wrong with – it makes for a perfect gift topper or stocking stuffer that is oh so usable. This recipe for peppermint lip balm is easy and all natural, and the end result is perfect for the cold winter months ahead.
The coconut oil and shea butter act as natural moisturizers, while the addition of peppermint essential oil gives your lips that refreshing tingly feeling (and smells amazing).
Homemade Peppermint Lip Balm
Makes 2 tins
Ingredients:
1 tbsp beeswax
1 tbsp shea butter
1 tbsp coconut oil
3-4 drops peppermint essential oil
Directions:
Use a double boiler to melt the beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil. You can easily create your own double boiler if you have a Mason jar and small pot or saucepan. Mason jars can withstand high heat, so you can place it in the pot or pan on medium- to high heat, and melt the ingredients inside the Mason jar. Once the wax has fully melted and mixed with the coconut oil and shea butter, turn off the heat and add about 3-4 drops of the peppermint essential oil. Stir and quickly pour into the tins. To speed up the hardening process, you can place the tins in the fridge or freezer.
I love the idea of putting the tins in little gift bags and using them as toppers this holiday season!
