Beauty Tips for Traveling

Like most beauty addicts, I for one do not like leaving my beloved beauty stash at home alone, picking a blush to take is like how I imagine it would be trying to pick a favourite child, difficult and painful. Overtime I’ve learned that I really don’t need to take 38 eyeshadows with me for one weekend away or 5 pairs of false lashes. If leaving your makeup collection alone isn’t enough, traveling can take a massive toll on the skin whether its airplane travel to climate, change in diet or even the quality of tap water…

Travel Size:

Taking your 500ml cleanser with you isn’t a smart move when you’re traveling so ditch the full-size and opt for a travel size instead. Many stores sell mini travel sizes of all your favourite products whilst some brands have kits specifically designed for traveling like *The Jojoba Company Travel Essentials Pack and *Bioelements Travel Light Kit - Age Activists

Multi Use Products:

I love multi-purpose products because it’s like getting a bang for your buck when you can use products in multiple ways. Instead of packing five hundred different products like a cream blush, lipstick, liquid eyeliner, pencil eyeliner and mascara many products have double duty properties. I love using lipstick as cream blush, and mascara as eyeliner on an angled brush. For skincare I like to take a multi-purpose ointment that can be used to highlight the face, nourish cuticles, tame flyaways, hydrate the lips and help soothe very dry skin. Try: Lanolips 101 Ointment

Hydration:

If you are traveling by plane be sure to take some great hydrating skincare. The recycled air in airplanes can dry out your skin making it look dry and haggard. I recommend taking a hydrating serum and a good moisturizer to help replenish skin. A face mask can also help with hydration, but you may get a few funny looks so try an overnight mask (they’re usually quite sheer and apply like a moisturizer) I also like to take a hydrating mist with me to refresh my skin.  Try: *BioElixia BodyShaper Multi Purpose Rescue Balm, Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask, *Uriage Thermal Water Spray

Climate:

Wherever you’re traveling off to will probably have a different climate than you (and your skin!) are used to, if it’s a tropical destination make sure to pack the highest SPF you own and don’t bring your most supercharged hydrating products, a chilly climate? The heating can dry out your skin so make sure to pack a little something extra to give your skin the hydration it needs.

Chlorine:

If you aren’t the proud owner of a swimming pool or hot tub/spa bath/jacuzzi and are staying at a hotel that has one, chances are you will probably go for a dip or two. These are overly chlorinated to kill all the germs and can take a negative toll on your skin and hair so make sure to take a quick shower after your swim and wash all that chlorine out of your hair + pop in a hydrating mask and slather on your body lotion.

Tap Water:

Cleansing your skin is super important and even more so when you are traveling as your skin is subject to more and different environmental pollution so a good cleanser is obviously a must. However, when you do cleanse ditch the tap water; It is filled with chlorine and fluoride and some countries don’t filter their water very well so try cleansing your skin with bottled water instead.

Beauty Sleep:

There is nothing like the comfort of your own bed and we all need to get a good nights sleep so we can go off and explore the next day so pack a sleeping mask and your best brightening eye cream. I also love to use under eye patches for a quick boost of hydration. Try: Origins Gin Zing Refreshing Eye Cream, *Skin Republic Collagen Hydrogel Under Eye Patch.
