Nike announced the release of the rapper’s Air Yeezy 2 ‘Red October’ kicks out of the blue on Sunday and they sold out in 11 minutes. Now, the sneakers are going for thousands — or in one case millions — of dollars on eBay.
At least one Kanye West fan is willing to spend millions on a pair of shoes.
Nike released the rapper’s highly anticipated Air Yeezy 2 “Red October” sneakers on Sunday without giving anyone a heads up. The company simply tweeted at 1 p.m. that the kicks were available on its website.
The “Red Octobers” sold out in 11 minutes, Vibe reported.
As a result, the latest Air Yeezy 2 sneakers, which retailed for $245, are now going for a pretty penny on eBay.
The current bid for one pair had reached 10 million pounds (nearly $16.4 million) by Monday afternoon. The shoes, a UK men’s size 8, had 84 bids.
“These don't need much of a description as most people that are looking at this listing know exactly what they're looking at,” the seller wrote.
The auction is scheduled to end on Feb. 16.
Other eBay sellers are auctioning off the shoes for anywhere from $2,000 to $12,300.
West and Nike have had a rocky relationship. In November 2013, he slammed the label for supposedly refusing to pay him royalties. The two parted ways and West inked a reportedly lucrative deal with Adidas.
