Toner is often a step that is overlooked in our skincare routines, a common misconception is that toners are drying, full of alcohol and damaging to the skin and whilst this may have been the case 15 years ago those days are gone and now there are plenty gentle toners with soothing, nourishing and balancing ingredients on the market.

A toner isn’t a 110% necessary step in your skincare routine, but it can help. I personally don’t use a toner every day and every night but from time to time there’s nothing like wiping a gentle toner over your skin to help balance it out. Toners are not be confused with cleansing waters which are designed to cleanse the skin without the use of water. They are great for:
- Balancing out the skin; Toners are specifically designed to help balance and maintain a healthy pH balance for the skin.
- Removing excess makeup and dirt; Toners aren’t as commonly used now because of the introduction of double cleansing but toners are great at removing excess oils, dirts and makeup from the skin.
- Prepping the skin; because Toners balance the skin and remove excess dirt they can help your serum, face oil and moisturiser work a lot more effectively
Toners aren’t essential but if you are someone with unbalanced, oily, dry, combination or acne prone skin they can be great at helping to balance out your skin.
